7 days

Now that is a milestone for you - 7 days left until my due date. I had ran into Old Navy today and the cashier was like, 'when are you due' and I said, '7 days' and she said, 'Really and you are out shopping'.... I thought that was funny and valid. I do feel more comfortable running errands with Kevin around instead of by myself. I limit where I go so that I know that getting back to the car is quick and easy. I can't really explain why, it isn't because I think my water is going to break, etc. just feels more secure to have someone there in case I don't feel well or something.

Well, 7 days.... I wonder when it will happen this week, next week ... hopefully not the week after that...

Also, we haven't really solidified a name. Everyone wants to know what name we've picked, but we really haven't yet. I sort of feel like we haven't exhausted our options either and I wonder if we need to sit down and go from A-Z. I'm not sure Baby Hahm is going to like Baby Hahm as his name long term. Well, actually it would be Baby Philip Hahm since we are using Philip (Kevin's middle name and his dad's), but Kevin did just say that was up for discussion too if we wanted... oh man 7 days until the due date and we are that up in the air.....hhhmmm. Here are a few that have been thrown around :) ....Asher, Walton, Nathaniel, Samuel, Porter, Stanton, Thomas, Nicolas, Carter, Gerritt (and several of these were immediately taken off the table by myself or Kevin and weren't even ever considered)... This gives you a taste of our insanity . A friend of mine said I should just stick with the coffee theme... 'Mocha' and 'Kona' and 'Latte Hahm' or 'Macchiatto Hahm' maybe even 'Juan Valdez Hahm'....

I do think Kevin has a secret plan to wait until I'm totally exhausted after giving birth and he will fill out the paperwork and write whatever name he wants without me aware of what is actually happening.  (Nah, I don't really think he'd do that... or do I)

Still Nameless

It is funny to read all of the name hints and tips that are out there.  I do keep these things in the back of my mind.  I do so just to make sure we don't fall in to a naming trap and that we avoid the usual mistakes

Meanings - We will try and avoid a name that means 'old pirate' or 'dead bird' or 'flower wilter'
Popularity - As most of you know this is where Kevin and I differ a little bit, but I am staying clear of overly used popular names.  Especially recently named celebrity kids.
Embarrassing nicknames or initials - Kevin's dad gave us a piece of advice based on his own name.. he said don't use a name where the nickname can end in a 'y' People on occasion would call him 'Teddy' and he wasn't so keen on that nickname (His name is Theodore, Ted for short).  We also will try to avoid initials like D-U-H.  We also need to make sure the nickname doesn't sound crazy rhymey with Hahm...  This eliminates 'Tom Hahm'
Mistaken pronunciation - Well, with Hahm you usually have to tell people 95% of the time it isn't pronounced 'HAM' so why add a first name that equally needs to be corrected.
Identity crisis - We will of course google the name we choose just to make sure a serial murderer or porn star doesn't share the same name... although with Hahm as a last name I don't think we will run in to much there

After all of this you might be wondering if we have decided on a name.  We definitely have a major frontrunner (well there is only one still that Kevin and I agree on and love so it is the frontrunner), but we are still pondering all kinds of ideas.  Basically, any idea has to beat our frontrunner now.  Kevin basically likes any name that is listed on the declaration of independance or something of equal historical significance.  If you remember, George, William, John, Thomas, Samuel etc are those options.  There are very few historical names that pass my criteria... I like the idea of a strong, historical sounding name, but none are making the cut so far for me...  On the flip side I like the lesser known names - not the girly sounding guy names or names that are just weird, but names that are less used.  As you can imagine, nothing on my list gets the Kevin approval so we are still at it.

My dad had the idea that we could combine Kevin and Stacy and name Baby Hahm 'Stavin'... that would certainly be original :)

What's in a name?

"That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet" ...so is Juliet right?

Now that we have found out the sex, the question is asked quite often about whether or not we've decided on a name.  The real truth is that Kevin and I haven't really talked about it much.  We both personally think about it, but no real eliminations or searches have occurred.  Well, some eliminations have occurred in passing conversations - the obvious hit or misses each of us offer up.  One thing is for sure and that is Kevin and I have very different tastes in names so it will be an interesting process as we come to a decision.  I tend to like a little 'different' names, not real different like 'Soul', 'Trophimus' or 'Apple', but not in the top 20 either.  Kevin is more of a top 20 guy.  He figures it is a safer bet for ensuring Baby Hahm is not teased.

In an effort to make this process a little more formal I have downloaded a baby name app. for my phone :)  I have started selecting a few of my favorites.  My dad offered a bunch of suggestions on the phone the other day, if you know my dad, some were meant to be goofy and some were serious!  The joke will be on him if I choose one of his 'goofy' names HA.

Now here is the other big dilemma as you choose a name...  Should you tell people and get either wanted or unwanted opinions?  Everyone has all kinds of memories of people and places so almost every name you choose someone somewhere will have an association.  This makes it easy to find someone willing to tell you what an awful name you chose.  Not because it is truly an awful name, but because it was the class bully they feared or the girl that stole someone's boyfriend or the smelliest person they used to work with... so do you tell or not??
